5 Things You Need to Know about Pricing a Kitchen Remodeling Project

Oct 19, 2016

All homeowners know that remodeling the kitchen comes at a price. Anyone who has actually remodeled the kitchen with us knows that the price is well worth it in the end. We always strive to design and build out the kitchen that you want with the materials you choose. Cost is one of the first things people generally ask about, so today we wanted to point out five things you need to know about pricing a kitchen remodeling project.

Workmanship: Custom cabinetry will cost more than stock. You can see the difference between custom and stock by visiting a local cabinet maker to see custom cabinets and then your local home improvement center to see stock cabinetry. We can offer you some advice, but we can’t make the decision for you.

Base Materials: The materials you choose for your new kitchen will determine a great deal of the total price. Solid wood cabinets will cost more than particle board cabinets. A stone countertop will cost more than a laminate countertop. There are a few places you can cut corners, but make sure you know where those are before you start cutting.

Covering Materials: You may decide you want to go with laminate or formica for a section of the counter tops or the eat-in bar area. This is completely understandable; especially if you worry that the area may take damage or become stained in time. It’s very easy and inexpensive to replace this type of counter top at any time. Replacing cabinets that have been faced with cherry, mahogany, fir, or other expensive wood coverings will cost more than laminate.

Doors and Doorways: An arched doorway costs more than a squared doorway. An intricately designed door will cost more than a simple door. These are things to keep in mind, because they will affect the overall appearance of your kitchen as well as the cost.

Finishing Touches: Materials, build quality, and workmanship are only a few of the things to think about when pricing a kitchen remodel. We also have to take your faucets, lighting, flooring, and other finishing touches into consideration. Custom finishes like antique paint finishing takes additional time, which means added labor costs.
